Centennial Water and Sanitation District serves as the primary water and wastewater provider for Highlands Ranch. They deliver high-quality water through their state-of-the-art Joseph B. Blake Water Treatment Plant located in Highlands Ranch. Wastewater undergoes thorough treatment at the Marcy Gulch Wastewater Treatment Plant to meet strict quality standards before release.
Centennial Water prioritizes efficient resource management with a strategy focused on maximizing surface water usage. Over the past decade, approximately 90 percent of supplied water has come from renewable river sources. Highlands Ranch residents benefit from dual water sources—the South Platte River to the west and a substantial underground aquifer beneath the area. Centennial combines these supplies to enhance reliability, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
This integrated approach of using renewable water alongside the vast underground aquifer creates a true conjunctive use system, allowing aquifers to be replenished annually for over ten years. For water emergencies, contact the service department at 303-791-2185, available 24/7. If unable to reach someone at that number, please call 720-408-7034.
Municipal Water Utility Company FAQ

For more information on your tap water, visit the U.S. CDC:
Centennial Water and Sanitation District Municipal Water Company and CDCQUESTION: Why is the water so warm especially during summer months?
ANSWER: Our primary supply comes from the Trinity Aquifer with wells averaging 2,700 feet deep. The water's warmth results from natural earth heat at this depth. We pump water from wells into ground-level storage tanks until elevated storage tanks (towers) need replenishing. During winter months (November-April), water remains in ground tanks long enough to cool naturally. However, summer demand significantly reduces storage time, preventing natural cooling.
QUESTION: Are steps being taken to cool the water?
ANSWER: Absolutely! We've drilled new wells into a different aquifer that provides water approximately 26 degrees cooler than the Trinity aquifer. These wells reach about 850 feet deep but produce only one-third the volume of Trinity wells. Operating both well types equally results in roughly 10 degrees of cooling. We've gone further by adding shallower wells at four of our six pump stations and installing surface water connections at our Bob White and Lake Grove Pump Stations. These improvements will substantially reduce water temperature throughout most of the system while allowing Trinity wells to pump less and cool longer.
QUESTION: Will surface water taste and feel different?
ANSWER: Yes. Your current water is extremely "soft," while surface water from Rockett Special Utility District and City of Midlothian is "hard" with a distinctly different taste. The entire water system will be affected by these additional elements regardless of whether that specific water reaches every tap.
