About Us
The City of Aberdeen regularly tests for contaminants in your municipal water supply according to federal and state regulations under the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines of the Clean Water Act of 1972 (1996). The city is happy to report that your water meets safety standards and satisfies these federal and state requirements.
Your municipal water comes from fourteen (14) groundwater wells within Aberdeen supplied from the Talbot Formation aquifer and up to 400,000 gallons daily from Harford County Water Treatment Plant fed by the Susquehanna River, Perryman wellfield, and Abingdon Water Treatment Plant. The combined daily consumption averages 1.33 million gallons.
The EPA requires Aberdeen to provide technical information about potential water contaminants and annual test results. While the data tables may seem complex, they confirm that the water meets or exceeds all federal and state regulatory standards.
After water is collected from various sources, the City treats it to remove impurities and disinfects it to eliminate microbial contaminants. All tap water, including bottled water, may reasonably contain small amounts of certain contaminants. It's important to understand that the presence of these substances doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk.
Additional information about contaminants, potential health effects, testing methods, and preventive measures is available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791 or at www.epa.gov/safewater.
Our water production and distribution system had NO VIOLATIONS, with analysis showing very few detectable contaminants. We're proud that our municipal water meets all federal and state requirements. Through our monitoring protocols, staff identified that some finished water contains low levels of constituents as it leaves the treatment plant and enters the distribution system. These levels are below regulatory limits and DON'T POSE a health risk according to EPA standards.
Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. People with compromised immune systems—including those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, some elderly people, and infants—may be particularly susceptible to infections. These individuals should seek advice about drinking water from their healthcare providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate ways to reduce infection risk from cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800) 426-4791.
Protecting municipal water is everyone's responsibility. You can help safeguard your community's water source in several ways:
