South Carolina Water Utility Companies

Dear Residents: We're pleased to present a summary of your water quality for January 1 to December 31, 2017. The Safe Municipal Water Act requires utilities to issue a "Consumer Confidence Report" annually, along with other legally required updates. This report details our water source, composition, and the safeguards our testing and treatment processes provide.

The City of Cayce Water Treatment Plant is dedicated to delivering safe, reliable water. Informed customers are our best allies in maintaining water quality. For questions about this report, contact Vince Osborne at 803-739-5380 or vosborne@caycesc.gov. Este informe incluye información importante sobre su agua potable. Tradúzcalo ó hable con un profesional que lo entienda bien.

City of Cayce Water Treatment Plant's water meets or exceeds all federal and state standards. For community participation opportunities regarding water decisions, contact our Resources Department at 803-796-9020. City Council meets the first Tuesday monthly at 6:00 PM in City Hall.

Water Source Information: Our system receives water solely from the Congaree River. SCDHEC completed a Source Water Assessment (updated spring 2017) showing the Congaree is influenced by both Saluda and Broad River watersheds. View the assessment at http://www.scdhec.gov/HomeAndEnvironment/Water/Watersheds/WatershedMap.

Health Information: To ensure safety, EPA establishes limits on contaminants in public water systems, while FDA regulations set similar standards for bottled water. All water sources naturally contain some contaminants, but their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. Immuno-compromised individuals, cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, those with HIV/AIDS, some elderly, and infants may face increased infection risks and should consult healthcare providers about water consumption.

Water contaminant information and EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risks from Cryptosporidium and other microbes are available via the Safe Municipal Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).

Lead Information: Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, particularly for pregnant women and children. Lead in municipal water primarily comes from service lines and home plumbing materials. While we provide high-quality water, we cannot control plumbing component materials. After water sits for several hours, minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using for consumption. For lead testing information, call 1-800-426-4791 or visit http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

The City of Cayce currently tests for lead and copper every three years as required by EPA. The last tests were conducted mid-2017, with the next scheduled for mid-2020.
