Question: Is yard waste burning allowed within Township boundaries?
Answer: No, the Township prohibits burning leaves or grass clippings, even with a valid burning permit. The Township schedules specific dates for leaf drop-off at various collection points. (Locations are advertised in the Holland Sentinel and brochures available at the Township Office)

Question: Who requires a burning permit and how can one be obtained?
Answer: Anyone wishing to burn branches or brush must secure a burning permit. Permits are available by contacting the Township Office at 395-0196, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Permits typically cover three days, depending on weather conditions.

Question: Are Burn Barrels permitted?
Answer: No. Holland Charter Township enacted a burning ordinance on May 15, 2008 (effective June 1, 2008) that explicitly forbids open burning of refuse in burn barrels.

Question: Who should I contact regarding burning complaints or questions?
Answer: Direct complaints to 1-800-249-0911. For questions, please contact the Township Office at 395-0196.

Question: Is open burning permitted throughout the year?
Answer: No. Open burning requiring permits is prohibited during May, June, July, and August.
