About Us
El Monte regularly conducts testing for chemical and biological contaminants in your municipal water supply in accordance with United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Water (DDW) monitoring requirements.
California American Water (San Navegante System) is responsible for testing the groundwater purchased by the City of El Monte, while MWD handles testing of treated surface water purchased through California American Water (San Marino System). The 2017 testing results displayed in this report include analyses performed by both California American Water (San Marino System) and MWD.
The State allows less frequent testing for certain contaminants because their concentrations in groundwater typically remain stable. Some of the data, while representative, may be more than one year old. The chart includes all detected contaminants that have Federal and State municipal water standards, as well as identified unregulated contaminants of interest.
Potential Contaminant Sources in Your Municipal Water:
- Microbial contaminants: Viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife.
- Inorganic contaminants: Naturally-occurring salts and metals, or those resulting from urban stormwater runoff, industrial/domestic wastewater discharges, oil/gas production, and mining/farming.
- Pesticides and herbicides: From agriculture, urban stormwater runoff, and residential usage.
- Radioactive contaminants: Naturally-occurring or from oil/gas production and mining operations.
- Organic chemical contaminants: Synthetic and volatile organic compounds from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, stormwater runoff, and septic systems.
All water, including bottled water, can reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the USEPA's Safe Water Hotline at 800-426-4791 or visit www.epa.gov/safewater.
