About Us
In 2017, approximately 55% of Pomona's water was extracted from groundwater wells. These wells draw from three distinct groundwater aquifers:
- Chino Basin
- Six Basins
- Spadra Basin
Wells are strategically located throughout Pomona. Water treatment varies based on specific contaminant types and concentrations detected. Current treatment facilities include:
- Multiple air stripping facilities that remove volatile organic compounds
- Four ion exchange facilities that eliminate nitrate and perchlorate
Twelve percent of the municipal supply originates from the San Gabriel Mountains, flowing through San Antonio Canyon. This water undergoes filtration and disinfection at the Open G. Pedley Funeral Filtration Plant.
The remaining 33% comes from State Water Project supplies purchased from Three Miles Municipal Water District (TVMWD), which imports surface water from Northern California. These resources are drawn from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and transported to Southern California via the 441-mile California Aqueduct. This water receives treatment at Metropolitan Water District's Weymouth Treatment Plant in La Verne and at TVMWD's Miramar Water Treatment Plant in Claremont.
