Golden State Water extends gratitude to our customers for their exceptional conservation efforts, and encourages everyone to continue using water responsibly as California works toward full drought recovery. Following unusually dry winter periods, all residents must adopt water-wise practices as part of California's ongoing lifestyle adaptation.

On May 9, 2016, Governor Jerry Brown issued an Executive Order permanently prohibiting wasteful water practices. These restrictions include: no hosing of sidewalks or driveways, washing vehicles only with hoses equipped with shut-off nozzles, operating fountains only with recirculating systems, preventing excessive landscape runoff, and prohibiting irrigation within 48 hours after rainfall or of ornamental turf in public street medians.

1. Is my water safe to drink? Parker Water and Sanitation District meets all regulatory standards for clean water. We employ state-of-the-art equipment and advanced methodologies for testing. Water quality is monitored by both the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
2. What causes red/brown water? Discoloration results from naturally occurring minerals in well water. These minerals pose no health risks to humans or animals. Households may experience discolored water during hydrant flushing or water line maintenance. If you encounter "red water," avoid washing laundry as the minerals may stain clothing. For stain removal assistance, call 303-841-4627 between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, and Parker Water will provide Iron Out powder. After maintenance completes, run cold water to clear your service lines, using this water for plants or lawns.
3. How often does Parker Water test for contaminants? The Safe Drinking Water Act requires annual testing and a "Consumer Confidence Report" detailing water sources and contaminant levels compared to allowable measurements. Beyond this, Parker Water conducts weekly bacteria testing to ensure safety and quality.
4. Is there fluoride in my water? PWSD does not add fluoride to our water. Any fluoride present occurs naturally. Parker Water strictly follows Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations, testing for fluoride every three years. Recent testing showed ranges of 0.8–2 ppm, well below the maximum allowable level of 4 ppm.
5. Are there regulations for safety and pollution? Yes. Water quality is regulated by both the EPA and Colorado Health Department. Parker meets and exceeds all quality standards.
6. Is there lead in my water? The trace amounts in PWSD water remain within safe, non-harmful levels, primarily from household plumbing corrosion. Highest risk properties include pre-WWII homes with lead pipes or those built between 1982-1987 using copper pipes with lead-based solder (later banned). Running tap water for 30 seconds to 2 minutes effectively reduces lead exposure.
7. Do I need a water filter? Filters aren't necessary in our District as the water is regularly tested and safe for consumption. However, if desired, visit the District office for a FREE faucet aerator (while supplies last)!
