About Us
How Is Your Municipal Water Treated and Purified? The Dyal Water Treatment Plant stands out in Central Florida because it can process both groundwater and surface water sources. When groundwater enters the facility, it's treated with chlorine, lime, soda ash, and coagulants to remove hardness and suspended particles. Fluoride is added following EPA/CDC guidelines, while carbon helps adjust pH levels and stabilize the water. Chloramination disinfects the water before it passes through specialized filters containing sand and anthracite coal, with turbidity (cloudiness) constantly monitored at each filter.
Surface water requires different treatment methods. Upon entering the plant, surface water receives ferric sulfate, hydrated lime, and polymer additives. Ozone is then injected for disinfection, taste and odor control, and management of disinfection byproducts. After ozone treatment, the water receives hydrated lime, carbon, chlorine, and fluoride before filtration through crushed stone and anthracite coal filters, with continuous turbidity monitoring.
Water from both processes is combined and stored in tanks before distribution to homes and businesses throughout Cocoa. We're proud to report that our municipal water meets all federal and state requirements under the oversight of Mayor Henry C. Parrish III and City Council members.
The Claude H. Dyal Water Treatment Plant continuously monitors for contaminants according to Federal and local regulations. This report covers testing from January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014, with some earlier data included when relevant. Our NELAC certified laboratory ensures water quality throughout the treatment and distribution process.
