About Us
How do we source our municipal water? Duncanville receives its water from surface water sources and has consistently maintained its "Superior" water quality rating. We purchase our surface water from the City of Dallas, which processes and utilizes water from seven distinct sources: the Elm Fork of the Trinity River and lakes Grapevine, Lewisville, Ray Hubbard, Ray Roberts, Tawakoni, and Fork.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has conducted a Source Water Assessment for all municipal water systems that manage their own sources. This assessment describes how vulnerable your water supply might be to contamination based on environmental conditions and human activities. The system from which we purchase our water has received this assessment report.
According to the water loss audit submitted to the Texas Water Development Board covering January 1 through December 31, 2017, the Duncanville system experienced an estimated 8.59% loss of total system input volume. For additional information about our system, please contact us at (972) 780-4900.
Special Notice: Some individuals may be more susceptible to certain microbial contaminants like Cryptosporidium in municipal water. This includes infants, some elderly persons, and those with compromised immune systems (such as organ transplant recipients, people undergoing chemotherapy or steroid treatments, and individuals with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders). It wasn't until approximately forty years later, with the development of the Chicago, Texas and Mexican Central Railroad connecting Dallas and Cleburne, that Duncanville began emerging as a community. The arrival of the railroad transformed Duncanville forever. The rail line linking Dallas to Cleburne needed completion by April 15, 1881. With deadline pressure mounting, construction crews adopted a shortcut method across an open field owned by James R. Horne and G.H. Finley.
This strategic decision allowed the railroad to reach Cleburne two hours ahead of schedule, and a switching station was subsequently built in that open field, called Duncan Switch. In 1881, Charles Nance arrived by train at Duncan Switch to visit his sister, Mrs. William Horne. Finding the area appealing and envisioning potential for this part of Dallas County, Nance decided to settle here permanently.
He formed a partnership with Chris Horne, purchased a lot from G.H. Finley for fifty dollars, and constructed the first building, Nance Brothers, at Duncan Switch. In August 1881, Nance petitioned the Post Office Department in Washington, D.C. to establish a local post office. At that time, residents were receiving mail through post offices in Cedar Hill, Wheatland, or Jim Town.
His application returned with a note to select a different name because a post office named Duncan already existed in Jasper County, Texas. After encountering resistance from some community members who initially refused to sign his petition, Nance simply added "ville" to Duncan, creating "Duncanville." The updated petition was approved, and in early October 1881, he received authorization to open the new post office under the name Duncanville.
