We are pleased to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). This document provides information about your water source, contents, and how it compares to regulatory standards. It represents a snapshot of last year's water quality assessment.
We're dedicated to keeping you informed because educated consumers are our strongest allies. Do certain individuals need to take special precautions? Yes - some people may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. This includes immunocompromised individuals undergoing cancer treatment, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, some elderly individuals, and infants. These groups should seek advice from healthcare providers about drinking water safety.
EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available through the Safe Water Drinking Hotline (800-426-4791). Our primary water source is surface water from the Bear River, occasionally supplemented with water from Sulphur Creek Reservoir.
Why might contaminants appear in municipal water? All water, including bottled varieties, naturally contains small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline.
Water sources (tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity. These may include: microbial contaminants from sewage facilities or wildlife; inorganic contaminants like salts and metals occurring naturally or from urban runoff; pesticides/herbicides from agriculture and residential uses; organic chemicals from industrial processes or petroleum production; and naturally occurring radioactive contaminants.
The EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant amounts in public water systems, while FDA regulations set similar standards for bottled water to ensure public health protection.
