About Us
The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities (BOPU) is pleased to present the Consumer Confidence Report for Annual Municipal Water Quality for calendar year 2017. If you have questions regarding this report, please contact Water Quality Control Manager, Ron Kailey at 307.635.7693.
Report Findings: We confirm that BOPU water meets all federal and local requirements and is safe for consumption.
About Our Water Supply: BOPU receives both surface water and groundwater. Surface water comes from the Douglas Creek Drainage in the Snowy Range Mountains, approximately 75 miles west of Cheyenne. This water is stored in Rob Roy Reservoir and transported to Granite and Crystal Reservoirs via two pipelines.
Surface water is also collected from the Crow Creek Drainage in the Pole Mountain/Vedauwoo area, about 30 miles west of Cheyenne. This water is stored in North Crow Reservoir (North Creek), Granite and Crystal Reservoirs (Middle Creek), and South Crow Reservoir (South Creek).
The City operates approximately 35 groundwater wells located west and northwest of Cheyenne, drawing from the Ogallala and White River Aquifers. Cheyenne also collects surface water from the Little Snake River Drainage (LSRD) located about 110 miles west of Cheyenne on the western slope of the Continental Divide. This water is transferred through a tunnel and stored in Hog Park Reservoir.
A Resource Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) report was completed in 2005. To review a copy, please call 307.637.6460.
Water Quality Monitoring: The BOPU's Water Treatment Division regularly tests for potential contaminants in accordance with Federal regulations. The most recent monitoring results (through 12/31/17) are shown in Section 13.
