This report summarizes the quality of municipal water provided to Hewitt residents during 2017. It includes details about water sources, contaminant testing, and how our water compares to EPA and state standards.

We're proud to report that in 2017, our system met all EPA and state municipal water health requirements. The City of Hewitt Water diligently protects its water supplies.

Water Source Information:
Our municipal water is 72% groundwater from four wells (2,000 feet deep in the Hosston Branch of the Trinity Aquifer) and 28% purchased surface water from the City of Waco and the City of Lorena. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has assessed our source water and found some sources may be susceptible to certain contaminants.

Water Conservation Tips:

  • Water lawns before 10 a.m. to reduce evaporation and plant disease
  • Apply about 1 inch of water weekly, as needed, based on grass condition
  • Use a 6-ounce can to measure water application and prevent runoff
  • Consider water-efficient irrigation controllers that save approximately 8,800 gallons annually
  • Maintain your sprinkler system regularly to ensure proper function and prevent waste
  • Consider drip irrigation for plants, vines, and vegetables to reduce evaporation by 60%

Indoor Water Conservation:

  • Keep a pitcher of cold water in the refrigerator instead of running the tap
  • Use your dishwasher efficiently - run full loads and use the "light wash" feature when possible
  • Take shorter showers - consider using a timer to track your usage
  • Turn off taps while shaving or brushing teeth to save up to 2,400 gallons annually
  • Wash only full loads of laundry to save over 3,400 gallons per year
  • Sweep outdoor areas rather than hosing them down
  • Use a pool cover to reduce evaporation

For more information about our water system or to view the complete Source Water Assessment, please contact Kevin Reinke at 254-666-3151 or visit the TCEQ website.
