This report provides a snapshot of your municipal water quality from the past year. We've included information about your water source, composition, and how it compares to EPA and state standards. We believe informed residents are our greatest allies in maintaining water quality.

We encourage you to learn about the efforts continuously made to improve your water system. If you'd like to observe the decision-making process affecting your water, please attend our regularly scheduled meetings held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in City Hall. For additional information, contact Joel Davenport at 620-694-2685.

Your water comes from the Equus Beds Groundwater Aquifer. The City maintains seven (7) city and county water wells within the urban area, nine (9) additional wells in the rural agricultural areas, and four (4) remediation wells at the 4th & Carey Remediation Site. The Hutchinson Water Treatment Center uses reverse osmosis technology to remove contaminants and enhance water quality. Source water undergoes treatment to remove impurities, is blended with city and county well water, and disinfected with chlorine to protect against microbial contamination.

The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requires states to develop Source Water Assessments (SWA) for each public water supply to identify potential contamination sources. The state has completed an assessment of our source water. For results, please contact us or view online at http://www.kdheks.gov/nps/swap/SWreports.html

Certain populations may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general public. Those with compromised immune systems - including people undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, individuals with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, some elderly persons, and infants - may face increased risk. These individuals should seek advice about drinking water from their healthcare providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

All water sources, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, call the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).
