Natural Resources conducted a comprehensive water assessment to evaluate our drinking water source's vulnerability to potential contaminants. This process involved establishing source water zones for each well or surface intake and then conducting a contamination inventory to assess potential threats to each source.

Assessment maps and detailed information are available online at http://drinkingwater.missouri.edu/swip/swipmaps/pwssid.htm. To access maps for your water system, you'll need the State-assigned identification code printed at the top of this report. These Source Water Assessment maps provide a foundation for developing a more thorough source water protection plan.

Why are there contaminants in my tap water? Municipal water, including bottled water, can reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of certain contaminants. The presence of contaminants doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the Environmental Protection Agency's Safe Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

Contaminants that may be present in source water include:

  • Microbial contaminants such as viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment facilities, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants including salts and metals that occur naturally or result from urban runoff, industrial discharges, oil/gas production, or farming
  • Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential uses
  • Organic chemical contaminants including synthetic and volatile compounds from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and waste systems
  • Radioactive contaminants that can be naturally occurring or result from oil/gas production and mining

To ensure tap water safety, the Department of Natural Resources establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. Similarly, Department of Health regulations set limits for contaminants in bottled water to provide equivalent public health protection.

Is our water system meeting all regulations? The Missouri Department of Natural Resources oversees our system and requires regular testing to ensure safety. Our system is identified as MO1024009 for monitoring purposes. Last year, we tested for various contaminants, with detectable results shown in this report.

How can I get involved? If you'd like to participate in decisions affecting water quality or have questions about this report, please call us at 660-744-5365 for information about scheduled meetings or contact persons.

Should I take special precautions? Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. Immunocompromised persons—including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, some elderly individuals, and infants—may be particularly at risk. These people should seek advice from healthcare providers about appropriate water consumption. EPA/CDC guidelines on reducing infection risk from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available from the Safe Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

City of Dodge City Drinking Water Report Info
The Dodge City Sports Commission was established in 2014 when a group of stakeholders first gathered to discuss efforts to bring more events to the community. This collaborative group included representatives from key facilities in Dodge City capable of hosting athletic events and tournaments, with participation from City, School District, College, County, and United Wireless Arena personnel.

Recognizing that community-wide cooperation is essential for attracting and successfully executing major events, the group formed the Sports Commission to establish a consistent presence that could engage with event organizers and leverage resources to ensure event success. To date, the Commission has organized four KSHSAA State Basketball Championships, two Wild West Bowl 6 Man Championships, and secured hosting rights for the 2019 Shrine Bowl game. The commission continues to bid on additional events, including NJCAA and NAIA championships.
