About Us
Lake Mary's water originates from groundwater wells that extract from the upper Floridan Aquifer. These wells supply our municipal Water Treatment Plant (WTP), named after former Commissioner Harry Terry who championed its construction. At the treatment facility, water undergoes multiple purification processes including tower air oxidation, fluoridation, and chlorination before distribution through water mains to residential areas.
During the past year, we processed and delivered over 1.17 billion gallons, averaging 3.2 million gallons daily. The city maintains four water interconnections with Seminole County and one with Sanford, which are available during emergencies and maintenance periods. We also supply a small volume to Utilities, Inc. when needed.
In 2017, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection conducted a Source Water Assessment on our system to identify potential contamination sources near our wells. Two potential contamination sources were identified with a low susceptibility rating. Assessment results are available on the FDEP SWAPP website or by contacting Public Works at 407-585-1452.
Our water meets all Federal and State requirements. For questions about this report or our water utility, please contact the Director of Public Works at 407-585-1452 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. For water emergencies after hours, contact the Police Department at 407-585-1330.
We encourage residents to stay informed about their water utility. You're welcome to attend and participate in water utility discussions during City Commission meetings held on the first and third Thursday of each month. The City routinely monitors for contaminants according to federal and state regulations, with this report based on results from January 1 - December 31, 2017.
