We are proud to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report. This document outlines the quality of water and services we provide to you daily. Our primary goal is to deliver a safe and dependable water supply to your home. We want you to understand our efforts to continuously enhance water treatment processes and protect our valuable water resources.

Our department routinely monitors for contaminants in accordance with Federal and State regulations. This report reflects our monitoring results from January 1 to December 31, 2017, with some earlier data included as required by law.

In 2017, the Department of Environmental Protection conducted a Source Water Assessment for the City of Altamonte Springs, our water supplier. This assessment identified potential contamination sources near their wells. Results are available at the FDEP Source Water Assessment and Protection Program website: www.dep.state.fl.us/swapp.

The EPA notes that drinking water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals and, in some cases, radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal or human activity.

Potential contaminants include:

• Microbial contaminants like viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
• Inorganic contaminants such as salts and metals that occur naturally or result from urban runoff, industrial discharges, oil and gas production, mining, or farming
• Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential use
• Organic chemical contaminants including synthetic and volatile compounds from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, runoff, and septic systems
• Radioactive contaminants that occur naturally or result from oil and gas production and mining

EPA regulations limit contaminants in public water systems to ensure safety. Similarly, FDA regulations establish limits for contaminants in bottled water. All drinking water may reasonably contain small amounts of some contaminants, which doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk.
