About Us
In 2018, Titusville water customers received two violation notices. One concerned lead and copper testing while another involved Fecal Coliform detection. The lead and copper violation was primarily a reporting and monitoring issue from 2017, as noted in the table notes of this report.
As a result of monitoring requirement failures, we've completely redesigned our Lead & Copper Monitoring Program to ensure all future required samples are collected and submitted on time. The fecal detection violation happened in 2018 and would typically be addressed in next year's report. However, in the interest of transparency and maintaining your trust, we wanted to address this matter now.
The notice you received pertained to Fecal Coliform detection in three untreated water samples from our wellfields, before any treatment at our water plant. Upon discovering these positive samples, we immediately conducted re-sampling at the three wellfield locations. No Fecal Coliform appeared in the new samples, and subsequent weekly testing has remained negative. Our investigation revealed that standard sampling protocols weren't properly followed, which likely caused the positive results. We have thoroughly reviewed and enhanced both staff training and sampling procedures to prevent similar errors in the future.

City of Titusville Municipal Water Company and EPACity of Titusville Municipal Water Report Info
Titusville was established in 1867 when Confederate Col. Henry Theodore Titus arrived on the Indian River banks, though the area's first U.S. Post Office was installed in 1859 in what was then called Sand Point. Col. Titus arrived with intentions to develop a town on land owned by his wife Mary.
Overlooking the Indian River where they first came ashore, they constructed the first hotel named "The Titus House." The Colonel and Mary generously donated land for the initial courthouse and four churches, laid out many of the town's roadways, and established crucial connections to surrounding areas by linking the St. Johns and Indian Rivers with mule-drawn wagon transportation.
Today's "Titusville" might have been named "Riceville" if not for Col. Titus's fortunate win in a domino game against Capt. Clark Rice to determine naming rights for the settlement. Thus, a simple game of dominoes resulted in Sand Point becoming Titusville, Florida in 1873.
