City of Lumberton Municipal Water Report Info

As Mayor of this distinguished "All-America" city, I welcome you to the City of Lumberton, North Carolina website. Our city is situated along the scenic Lumber River in southeastern North Carolina. The river received its name from the extensive timber harvesting operations conducted throughout the 1700s.

History
Incorporated in 1859, Lumberton was established as the County Seat in 1787 and remains the largest municipality in Robeson County. Our community experienced significant growth following World War II and now hosts a diverse array of internationally-owned businesses. We take immense pride in our contributions to the region's cultural and economic development, and with strong community involvement, have actively participated in restoring our historic downtown area.

Award-Winning Community
Lumberton received prestigious All-America City awards in both 1970 and 1995. Our extensive downtown revitalization efforts resulted in Lumberton being redesignated as a North Carolina Main Street Community in 2005. In 2010, we became North Carolina's first Certified Retirement Community, a designation we proudly maintain today. These recognitions reflect our balanced approach to development and commitment to quality living.

Location and Amenities
Lumberton benefits from its strategic East Coast location, midway between New York and Florida on I-95, with I-74 providing convenient east-west access. We offer excellent transportation options including rail service, regional airports, and accessible deep-water ports. The beautiful Atlantic coast beaches, Appalachian mountains, and urban centers are all within a comfortable drive.

Our community features modern healthcare facilities, outstanding educational institutions, welcoming parks, affordable housing, reliable public services, and diverse cultural activities that create a safe, enjoyable living environment.

North Carolina CDC Tap Water Info

For more information on your municipal water, visit the U.S. CDC:

City of Lumberton Municipal Water Company and CDC
  1. Why is my water usage so high? Your meter readings may be incorrectly recorded or difficult to interpret. You might have an undetected leaky toilet or faucet. Contact our office and we'll help resolve this issue.
  2. What should I do about low water pressure? First inspect your meter and surrounding area for potential leaks. Then contact our office to report low pressure in your location.
  3. Why is my water discolored? Recent repairs may have allowed air to enter the line, causing a milky appearance. This typically resolves on its own.
  4. What treatment chemicals are added to our water? We only use chemicals certified by the National Safety Foundation for drinking water treatment purposes.
  5. My water tastes and smells unusual. Is it safe? State regulations require all public water systems to maintain minimum chlorine levels of 0.2 mg/L (tested at line endpoints). Systems using chloramine must maintain 0.5 mg/L levels. We test our disinfectant levels daily to ensure safety.
  6. Why do particles appear when running hot water? Your water heater likely needs flushing. CAUTION: Most manufacturers recommend hiring a professional. If attempting this yourself, carefully review your owner's manual to avoid injury or damage.
  7. Why do I have a previous balance when I sent my payment? We may have received it after the due date or it may not have arrived. Contact our office for assistance resolving this issue.
