About Us
Water sources for both tap water and bottled water include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land surfaces or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and, in certain cases, radioactive materials, and can pick up substances resulting from animal presence or human activities.
Contaminants potentially present in source water include:
- Microbial contaminants such as viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants like salts and metals occurring naturally or from urban runoff, industrial/domestic wastewater, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
- Pesticides and herbicides from various sources including agriculture, urban stormwater runoff, and residential uses
- Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organics from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, stormwater runoff, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants that may be naturally-occurring or result from oil/gas production and mining activities
To ensure tap water safety, the U.S. EPA and State Water Resources Control Board set regulations limiting certain contaminants in public water systems. State Board regulations also establish limits for contaminants in bottled water, providing similar public health protection.
Tables 1-6 list all municipal water contaminants detected during recent sampling. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. The State Board permits monitoring for certain contaminants less than once yearly as concentrations typically don't change frequently. Some data, while representative of water quality, may be more than one year old. Any violation of AL, MCL, MRDL, or TT is marked with an asterisk, with additional information provided later in this report.

Located in the heart of California's Central Valley within Fresno County, the City of Mendota offers numerous benefits to residents and visitors alike. CITY HISTORY
Mendota originated in the railroad industry. In 1891, it thrived as a Southern Pacific Railroad storage and trading facility. The first post office opened in 1892, and the city incorporated in 1942. The community has grown steadily, with agriculture consistently at its core.

According to January 1, 2017 State of California Department of Finance data, Mendota's population is 11,828, with 2,669 housing units and an average household size of 4.55 persons. The population's ethnic distribution is: Hispanic 94.65%, White 3.14%, Black 0.48%, American Indian/Alaskan Native 0.72%, Asian/Pacific Islander 0.72%, Other 0.60%. The Median Household Income is $23,705, with 41.88% below poverty level. Age distribution: 0-19 years: 38.66%, 20-44 years: 41.43%, 45-64 years: 14.68%.
