About Us
In 2017, Menlo Park Municipal Water delivered approximately 77 million gallons of water daily to over 18,000 residents across two service zones: the upper zone (near Interstate 280 including Sharon Heights) and the lower zone (east of El Camino Real). Other water providers serving Menlo Park include California Water Service Bear Gulch District, O'Connor Tract Cooperative Water District, and Palo Alto Park Mutual Water Company.
Menlo Park Municipal Water is dedicated to delivering safe, reliable, high-quality water meeting all federal and state standards. Each year, they produce a water quality Consumer Confidence Report as required by the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act and California State Water Resources Control Board. During 2017, over 800 water samples were collected and analyzed to ensure compliance with all regulations.
Our primary water source comes from the San Francisco Regional Water System operated by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC). This water originates as snowmelt flowing from the Tuolumne River into the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir. This well-protected Sierra water source has received filtration exemption from the EPA and State Water Resources Control Board's Division of Water.
To ensure drinking water safety, Hetch Hetchy water undergoes several treatment processes: ultraviolet light and chlorine disinfection, pH adjustment for corrosion control, fluoridation for dental health, and chloramination to minimize disinfection byproducts. Hetch Hetchy water is supplemented with surface water from two local watersheds, with rainfall and runoff from the 35,000-acre Alameda Watershed collected in Calaveras and San Antonio reservoirs before treatment at the Sunol Valley Water Treatment Plant.
