The City of Sunnyvale participates in the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency (BAWSCA). Currently, the San Francisco Public Utility Commission (SFPUC) collaborates with BAWSCA, the Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD), and five other regional water agencies on infrastructure planning initiatives. This cooperative effort, known as Bay Area Regional Reliability (BARR), aims to enhance water supply resilience across communities, maximize existing infrastructure, facilitate water transfers during shortages, and improve climate change adaptation capabilities.

Projects under consideration include agency interconnections, treatment facility upgrades, groundwater management improvements, water recycling initiatives, desalination options, and water transfer agreements. Sunnyvale remains committed to regional collaboration that ensures reliable water supplies for current and future generations.
