About Us
Since the early 1990s, Morganton has provided residents with an annual water quality report. Federal regulations established guidelines for water utilities to follow when communicating water information to consumers. North Carolina adapted these guidelines into the Customer Confidence Report format, designed to give customers a comprehensive overview of water quality data, key definitions, and relevant information.
This report summarizes the water quality provided during 2017. It includes information about water sources, content analysis, and how it compares to standards set by North Carolina. Morganton continuously monitors and protects its water supplies, and we're pleased to report that your tap water met all Federal and State health standards. For more information about your water, contact (828) 584-1460.
Morganton's water is sourced from the Catawba River. Treatment includes adding PolyAluminum Chloride for clarification, Sodium Hypochlorite for disinfection, Polyphosphate for corrosion control, and Hydrofluorosilicic Acid for dental health benefits.
System Information: The Catawba Water Treatment Plant has a capacity of 18 MGD, with average daily production of 9.1 million gallons. The City maintains 8 booster pump stations and 11 storage facilities that regulate pressure across more than 330 miles of distribution lines. During 2017, our Distribution staff installed 54 new water taps, replaced 196 meters, fixed 104 waterline breaks, repaired several hydrants, responded to 1004 service calls, operated 145 valves, and conducted 7727 utility locates.
