North Carolina CDC Tap Water Info

For more information on your municipal water, visit the U.S. CDC:

Wayne Water Districts Drinking Water Company and CDC
  1. How frequently will I receive my water bill?

Water is billed on a quarterly schedule for most residents.

  2. Why am I responsible for my tenant's water bill?

Local regulations state that unpaid bills transfer to property taxes, making property owners ultimately accountable for any unpaid water charges. Property owners can request duplicate copies of bills sent to tenants.

  3. What steps should I take when a tenant moves out?

Schedule a final meter reading with our office when a tenant vacates your property. Without an actual reading, we cannot calculate a final bill for that tenant. Landlords should verify with the Water Department that a reading has been scheduled.

  4. What infrastructure am I responsible for maintaining?

Customers are responsible for everything from the curb to the basement, including the shutoff valve at the meter. Wayne Water Districts maintains only the main line to the curb and the water meter itself.

  5. How is water service transferred between property owners?

A final meter reading is taken upon request from the current owner (seller), with 72 hours' notice appreciated. New owner information is required unless water service is being terminated; the final statement is typically faxed to the closing attorney's office.
