Hillsborough Water Company

The water supplied by this system comes from Lake Bill Johnston on the Eno River, located at 1000 Bill Johnston Street. This "surface" water source serves as the Town's primary water supply. Hillsborough maintains two backup water sources:

1) The River Orange facility at 1221 River Orange Street in Hillsborough on the East Fork of the Eno River, and

2) The West Fork of the Eno Reservoir at 4210 Efland Planks Grove Street in Planks Grove.

Construction on Phase 2 of the West Fork Reservoir will begin this year, raising the overall water level by 10 feet. While current levels adequately serve the existing population, Phase 2 expansion will increase capacity to meet the town's projected growth demands.

Hillsborough has a strong history of protecting residents from lead exposure. The town has no lead plumbing in its distribution system, though some buildings may have lead service lines connecting to the municipal network. Although these pipes aren't town property, Hillsborough takes water safety seriously and adds a combined phosphate corrosion inhibitor to its water.
