When you turn on your tap, it's important to understand where your water comes from. Eden's municipal water is sourced entirely from the Dan River, which begins in Virginia and flows through our community before continuing to Kerr Reservoir on the Roanoke River.

Our Robert A. Harris Water Filtration Plant sits along the Dan River banks and produces approximately five million gallons of clean water daily to meet our community's needs. The Upper Dan River Watershed, which covers roughly 2.5 square miles around Eden, is our water supply's source area. This watershed primarily consists of forested lands (98%) and agricultural areas.

The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources conducted a Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP) evaluation of our water source. This assessment determined the vulnerability of our water supply to potential contaminants. 2. What causes the pink residue around my showerhead and bowl?
   This pink substance is typically caused by airborne bacteria rather than water quality issues. Regular cleaning practices can help manage this common household occurrence.
3. Why might my water service be turned off?
   Service interruptions may occur due to bill delinquency, meter access issues, uncontrollable leaks, tampering with equipment, or at the property owner's written request.
4. How can I restore my water service?
   If your service was disconnected due to delinquency, the balance must be paid plus a $35.00 service charge.
5. What payment options are available?
   Multiple payment methods are accepted including cash, check, money order, in-person payments at the Administrative Office, mail payments, and online payments through our website (convenience fees may apply).
6. Is fluoride present in our water supply?
   Yes, naturally occurring fluoride is present at levels less than 0.5 parts per million. We do not add supplemental fluoride to the water.
7. Why does my water appear cloudy?
   This is typically caused by trapped air bubbles in the distribution system. Fill a glass with cold water and let it sit for a few minutes – you'll see the air rise and disperse, leaving clear water. Running your tap for 15 minutes often resolves this issue.
8. What causes yellowish/orange water discoloration?
   This usually results from heavy demand on the distribution system, which changes water flow patterns. Running cold water for 15 minutes typically resolves this temporary condition.
9. What should I do about a sewer backup?
   Check if multiple areas in your home are affected and avoid using water until the blockage is cleared. If your curb vent shows high water levels, contact our office during business hours or our emergency number after hours. If the curb vent is dry, the blockage is likely between your home and the vent, requiring a plumber's assistance.
