City of Rialto Municipal Water Report Info

Rialto is a thriving city in San Bernardino County, California, with a population of approximately 99,171 as of 2010 census estimates. The city serves as a key logistics hub, hosting four major regional distribution centers including Staples Inc. (serving the entire West Coast), Under Armour, and Target in the northern section. Rialto is also home to Pyro Spectaculars, one of America's largest fireworks companies.

Archaeological discoveries suggest human settlement in what is now Rialto predates 1500 AD. Artifacts preserved at the Rialto Historical Society indicate that Serrano Indians inhabited the area between 1500 and 1800 AD, though historical records don't clearly document their subsequent movements.

In 1842, the Lugo family received the 37,700-acre Rancho San Bernardino grant, which included present-day Rialto. By 1851, the Mountain Family purchased portions of this rancho, though their claim was later adjusted by the U.S. Government. An adobe structure from the mid-19th century, which served multiple purposes throughout its history, stands as Rialto's oldest remaining building and has been restored in Bud Bender Park (formerly Lilac Park).

Rialto's formal townsite was established in 1887 following the extension of the Santa Fe Railroad between San Bernardino and Los Angeles. New townsites were systematically placed every 2,600 yards along the rail line, resulting in over 25 new communities being developed that year. The Semitropic Land and Water Company formed to manage land sales and water rights. By fall 1888, the first school was built and the Brooke School District established, which operated continuously until around 1920, except for a brief interruption in 1888. The Rialto School District (now Rialto Unified School District) was formed in 1891.
