About Us
The maximum Residual Disinfectant Level Target represents the threshold below which no known or anticipated health risks exist from water disinfectants. These targets don't reflect the benefits of using disinfectants to control microbial contaminants.
NEPHELOMETRIC TURBIDITY UNITS (NTU) measure water clarity, which helps monitor filtration effectiveness. Toledo's Board of Public Works is dedicated to delivering safe, reliable municipal water 24/7, year-round. As a state-certified microbiological laboratory, the Toledo Water Treatment Plant collaborates with three independent labs to conduct over 50,000 tests annually for more than 200 potential contaminants.
Monthly samples are sent to external laboratories to test for cryptosporidium, a microscopic parasite often found in surface waters during storm runoff periods. Those infected may experience gastrointestinal illness. Importantly, no cryptosporidium has been detected in Toledo's water supply to date.
