About Us
Kent remains steadfast in its commitment to providing residents with safe, reliable and high-quality water. Our team consistently monitors water quality using advanced equipment and sophisticated testing protocols. In 2017, we maintained our unconditional operating permit (OH6701812) for the water system. Kent's municipal water meets or exceeds all federal and state standards for both appearance and safety.
All City of Kent Water Plant Staff possess Ohio EPA Operator Certification, with three personnel specifically qualified to conduct bacteria testing. This annual "Consumer Confidence Report," required by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), explains your water source, testing results, and other essential information about your water supply.
We proudly report that Kent's water continues to "meet or exceed" all established water-quality standards. We encourage public interest and participation in our community's water decisions. Regular Town Council Meetings occur on the first and third Wednesday monthly at 320 South DePeyster Street in Kent Council Chambers at 7:30 pm. The public is always welcome at these meetings.
2017 was a productive year for the Kent Water Treatment Plant with no major emergencies, allowing us to address important maintenance needs. Major projects included cleaning one production well and installing a new pump. We also upgraded internal PLCs (Programmable Logic Computers) that assist in plant operations—a challenging task requiring manual operation during the transition, yet our operators maintained consistent water quality throughout.
We continued cleaning our sludge lagoons, delivering 2,100 tons of material to local farmers. We also extended our trial with Water Reclamation, purchasing a tanker truck to transport lime slurry to our Water Reclamation Plant with excellent results. Another maintenance achievement was replacing a mixer in the water plant's flash blend unit. We're proud to have completed another year without operational violations from State or Federal EPA regulations, and look forward to continuing to provide Kent with excellent potable water.

Do you know where your home's master water supply valve is located? Has everyone in your household been shown its location? During an emergency, you'll need to locate it quickly. Precious minutes wasted searching could lead to flooded basements or water-damaged carpets. Swift action is essential.
Common locations include:
- Where the main water pipe enters your property
- Near the washing machine connection
- In proximity to your water heater
Every residence, apartment, and commercial building has a master water valve. Ensure you've identified the correct one by testing it—temporarily turn it off and check if all water fixtures stop flowing. If any taps still work, you haven't found the main valve. Once located, mark it clearly with a tag, bright ribbon, or colorful paint for easy identification.
