About Us
Virginia Beach Public Utilities is committed to delivering safe, high-quality water to your home 24 hours a day, every day of the year. We're pleased to present this annual water quality report which provides information about your water and summarizes testing conducted from January 1 through December 31, 2016.
This report explains where your water comes from, treatment processes, testing protocols, and how Virginia Beach water compares to federal and state standards. Your water primarily comes from surface water processed at Norfolk's treatment facility. The Department of Public Utilities' mission is to provide a reliable and safe water supply that supports our thriving community.
The Lake Gaston Water Supply Pipeline is crucial to fulfilling this mission, delivering water to Virginia Beach residents via a 76-mile pipeline that runs from Lake Gaston in Brunswick County to Lake Prince, a Suffolk reservoir owned and operated by Norfolk. Lake Gaston currently supplies approximately 34 million gallons daily (MGD) to Virginia Beach, with capacity to eventually provide up to 45 MGD—ensuring sufficient water for our growing community for years to come.
