A Report on Your Water Quality

It's something we often take for granted - simply turn on the faucet and water flows. But have you wondered about your water's source? How is it treated before reaching your home? This water quality report answers these questions and more.

As required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), all community water systems nationwide, including the City of Wilton Manors, must provide customers with an annual report of laboratory tests conducted throughout the year. Unless otherwise noted, this report presents results from monitoring conducted between January 1 and December 31, 2017.

The City of Wilton Manors receives its water from the Fiveash Water Treatment Plant operated by Fort Lauderdale. Wells in the Prospect and Peele-Dixie Wellfields draw from the Biscayne Aquifer - our region's underground water supply and sole source of drinking water.

Our water undergoes several important treatment processes: groundwater extraction, lime softening, fluoridation for dental health, filtration, and disinfection to ensure safety and quality. The treated water is regularly tested in state-certified laboratories before being distributed through miles of water mains to reach your home.

Water meters are typically located at the front of properties, installed in the ground beneath a steel lid. Most of PGUD's water meters are positioned along property frontage, though some may be located in side or rear yards. In subdivisions, meters are commonly placed in the grassy area between driveways.

These devices serve the critical purpose of measuring consumption for accurate billing and accountability. At Poplar Grove Utility District, we utilize an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system, chosen after thorough evaluation of available technologies.

Older meters typically run slower and fail to measure all water usage, particularly at low flow rates under ¼ gallon per minute. New water meters accurately measure all consumption, with each unit factory-tested for proper registration.

If you notice a higher bill after meter replacement, it's generally because the old meter was running slow or you may have a small leak. AMR meters have digital registers that record and verify readings before transmission, eliminating errors from manual reading.

For high bills, check faucets for drips, listen for toilet valves running unexpectedly, and test toilet flapper valves by placing food coloring in the tank (color appearing in the bowl before flushing indicates a leak). Service line leaks entering your home are also common and may require professional plumbing assistance.
