About Us
Water Resources and Treatment for Collier County Region
The Collier County Water System extracts groundwater from three well fields located in Golden Gate Estates. The North Hawthorn Well field features 24 wells supplying the North County Regional Water Treatment Plant. The South Hawthorn Well field contains 42 wells providing water to the South County Regional Water Treatment Plant. Additionally, the Golden Gate Tamiami Well field has 36 wells that supply both treatment facilities.
In 2016, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) conducted a Source Water Assessment on the system. This assessment identified potential contamination sources near the wells, including underground petroleum storage tanks, injection wells, and industrial wastewater facilities. Assessment results are available at www.dep.state.fl.us/swapp.
The county operates two Regional Water Treatment Plants. The North County Regional Water Treatment Plant (NCRWTP) has 12 MGD treatment capacity using nano-filtration and 8 MGD using reverse osmosis. The South County Regional Water Treatment Plant (SCRWTP) has 12 MGD capacity using lime softening and 20 MGD using reverse osmosis.
Water undergoes chloramine disinfection and fluoridation for dental health. A corrosion inhibitor prevents plumbing deterioration. The Collier County Water Division maintains comprehensive testing protocols to monitor contaminants according to federal and state regulations. This report presents findings from January 1 to December 31, 2016, with some data from prior testing conducted under applicable regulations.
