Dover Water Commission

The Dover Water Department is proud to share our annual water quality assessment with residents. This report covers January 1 through December 31, 2008, as required by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for all water suppliers.

Our water is sourced from three groundwater wells at 100 Princeton Ave. The water undergoes chlorination treatment before being sent to a clean reservoir and distributed through Municipal Water Service connections. We also provide service to Victory Gardens and portions of Wharton, Randolph, Rockaway Township, and Mine Hill.

1. What is water hardness? Water hardness refers to the mineral content in your water, primarily calcium and magnesium. Hard water can cause scale buildup in pipes and appliances.
2. How often is municipal water tested? Dover Water Commission tests water quality daily at treatment facilities and throughout the distribution system to ensure compliance with all regulations.
3. What causes water discoloration? Occasional discoloration may result from maintenance work, water main breaks, or changes in water pressure that stir up sediment in pipes.
4. Is bottled water better than tap water? Not necessarily. Municipal water is heavily regulated and tested more frequently than bottled water in many cases.
