Municipal water, including bottled varieties, naturally contains small amounts of certain contaminants. The presence of these substances doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. To ensure tap water safety, the EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. Similarly, FDA regulations set limits for contaminants in bottled water to provide equivalent public health protection.

For more information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the EPA's Safe Municipal Water Hotline (1-800-426-4791).

Lead in Home Plumbing: Elevated lead levels can cause serious health concerns, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead in water primarily comes from materials associated with service lines and household plumbing. While the East Orange Board of Water Commissioners provides high-quality water, they cannot control the materials used in plumbing components.

When water sits unused for several hours, you can minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption. If concerned about lead, consider having your water tested. Information about lead in water, testing methods, and exposure reduction is available from the Safe Water Hotline or at www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Here When You Need Us: The City of East Orange Board of Water Commissioners (EOBWC) proudly presents its Annual Water Quality Report, covering testing performed between January 1 and December 31, 2017. Over the years, the Board has remained dedicated to producing water that exceeds all federal and state standards. The EOBWC takes pride in delivering premium quality water to our consumers.

As new water safety challenges emerge, the EOBWC remains vigilant in meeting safe water goals, source water protection, conservation, and community education. We maintain the highest levels of integrity and professionalism to meet all our users' needs. We welcome your thoughts on this report's information. Our mission is to provide customers with the highest quality water through uninterrupted service. We implement every possible safeguard to ensure superior water quality and protect our customers' health. We remain prepared at all times to supply sufficient water for fire protection and sanitation needs.

We aim to provide water at the lowest possible cost while generating just enough revenue to cover operating and maintenance expenses. We maintain adequate reserves for depreciation, replacements, and essential capital improvements to maintain high performance standards.

As a self-sustaining department of East Orange City, the Water Commission's regular operations have virtually no impact on the tax rate. If efficient management creates a surplus beyond our requirements, we pass those savings to customers through reduced water rates.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The quality of your water matters to us.
