About Us
Fairfax Water delivers exceptional quality to our customers. As a resident, you receive water that consistently exceeds all federal and state standards. Our rigorous testing program monitors for 173 different compounds, with very few detected in our municipal supply. Those that are found remain at minimal levels well below EPA's maximum contaminant thresholds.
Advanced Testing and Monitoring
Our state-certified Water Quality Laboratory conducts comprehensive testing required by regulations plus additional analyses to ensure water quality throughout our system. We employ sophisticated online monitoring systems to continuously track pH, turbidity, coagulation efficiency, and disinfectant levels during treatment. Field teams also perform regular chlorine, pH, and temperature testing at locations across the distribution network.
Sophisticated Treatment Process
Fairfax Water operates from four advanced treatment facilities: the James J. Corbalis Jr. and Frederick P. Griffith Jr. plants (owned by Fairfax Water), plus the Dalecarlia and McMillan plants (operated by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers). All facilities utilize multi-stage purification:
- Coagulation and sedimentation to remove particles
- Filtration through activated carbon and sand
- Disinfection with chlorine to eliminate pathogens
- Addition of corrosion inhibitors to protect household plumbing
- Fluoridation for dental health
The Corbalis and Griffith plants also incorporate ozone treatment to further reduce odors and organic compounds, ensuring your water remains clean, safe, and pleasant tasting year-round.
