About Us
Municipal water, including bottled varieties, typically contains at least trace amounts of various contaminants. The presence of these substances doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. For detailed information about contaminants and potential health effects, contact the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Safe Municipal Water Hotline at 800-426-4791 or visit http://www.epa.gov/safewater/hotline/.
To ensure tap water safety, EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. Similarly, FDA regulations set limits for contaminants in bottled water to provide equivalent public health protection.
Water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal presence or human activity.
Potential contaminants in source water include:
- Microbial contaminants like viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
- Inorganic contaminants such as salts and metals, occurring naturally or resulting from urban runoff, farming operations, or mining
- Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, stormwater runoff, and residential usage
- Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile compounds from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, and septic systems
- Radioactive contaminants, either naturally-occurring or resulting from oil/gas production and mining
Lead Information Statement (Health effects and exposure reduction)
Elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, particularly for pregnant women and young children. Lead in water primarily comes from materials in service lines and home plumbing. Falls Water Company Inc. provides quality water but cannot control plumbing component materials. When water sits unused for several hours, you can minimize lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for consumption. If concerned, you may have your water tested. Information about lead in water, testing methods, and exposure reduction is available from the Safe Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Falls Water Co., Inc. operates as a managed open water utility providing civil water services to portions of Bonneville County east of Idaho Falls and north of Ammon, Idaho. Serving the community since 1958, we currently supply over 4,700 homes and businesses throughout Bonneville County subdivisions.
Our rate structure is mandated by the Idaho Public Utilities Commission (IPUC) and based on the direct costs of providing water service. The base charge ($17.75 for 5/8" and ¾" meters) includes up to 12,000 gallons of water and covers fixed operational costs plus a portion of "commodity costs." For usage exceeding 12,000 gallons, an additional charge of $0.689 per thousand gallons applies, primarily covering summer lawn irrigation needs.
Falls Water maintains some of the lowest rates among IPUC-regulated water systems in Idaho through effective cost management while maintaining service quality.
WATER SOURCE: Your water comes from several interconnected deep wells throughout the service area. Our computer-controlled pumps and distribution system automatically deliver water to meet varying demand levels. Independent laboratories regularly test the water to ensure it meets all state and federal quality standards. The water undergoes liquid chlorine solution disinfection with daily monitoring of disinfection levels.
Falls Water Co., Inc. operates in compliance with regulations from the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality and the Idaho Public Utilities Commission (IPUC). Contact the IPUC via their toll-free line at 1-800-432-0369.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- During extreme cold weather, prevent pipe freezing by running a pencil-lead sized stream of water. Frozen pipes cause costly and inconvenient repairs, for which customers are responsible beyond the meter barrel. Alternatively, install heat tape and insulation on exposed pipes in crawl spaces or near exterior walls.
- Know your home's main water shutoff valve location for plumbing emergencies.
THE METER COVER: Our meter readers and service personnel need access to the water meter on your property. Keep meters clear of landscaping and place them outside of any fencing. The cover is a round cast iron lid marked "Water" or "Water Meter" located where the water line enters your property. The company maintains the water service line from the street main up to and including the meter fittings inside the barrel. Homeowners are responsible for maintenance and repairs beyond the meter fittings.
