Is my water safe? We are pleased to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). This document provides information about your water source, its contents, and how it compares to standards set by regulatory agencies. This report offers a snapshot of last year's water quality. Special Health Considerations
Some individuals may be more vulnerable to contaminants in tap water than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons, including those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune disorders, some elderly residents, and infants may face increased infection risks. These individuals should seek advice about water consumption from their healthcare providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate methods to reduce infection risks from Cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available through the Safe Water Drinking Hotline (800-426-4791).

Protecting groundwater is vital as it supplies water to most residents. Prevention is both more effective and less expensive than remediation or replacement of contaminated water supplies. Public awareness is essential—many routine activities can affect water quality. Through cooperation between residents, local businesses, and our utility, we can ensure a reliable water supply for current and future generations.

Household Tips to Protect Our Water Supply:

• Learn about groundwater and your local water supply system
• Participate in community watershed cleanup activities
• Minimize use of chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, and hazardous products
• Recycle used oil, automotive fluids, batteries, and other products properly
• Check vehicles and machinery for leaks and repair promptly
• Maintain septic systems with inspections every 3 years
• Properly seal abandoned wells on your property

Understanding Contaminants
All water sources, including bottled water, may reasonably contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. Their presence doesn't necessarily indicate a health risk. Water Conservation Tips
Did you know the average U.S. household uses approximately 400 gallons of water daily? Simple changes can make a significant difference:

• Take shorter showers (5 minutes uses 4-5 gallons vs. 50 gallons for a bath)
• Turn off water while brushing teeth or shaving to save up to 500 gallons monthly
• Use water-efficient showerheads to save up to 750 gallons monthly
• Only run full loads in washing machines and dishwashers
• Water plants only when necessary
• Fix leaking toilets and faucets promptly
• Adjust sprinklers to water only garden areas during cooler parts of the day
• Teach children about water conservation

Lead Information
If present, elevated lead levels can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in tap water primarily comes from materials and components in service lines and home plumbing. While Frankfort Water Works provides high-quality water, we cannot control materials used in plumbing components. When water sits for several hours, minimize lead exposure by flushing taps for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. If concerned, consider having your water tested.
