Throughout 2016, we conducted extensive testing for numerous contaminants, all of which measured below state and federal maximum allowable levels. This report provides an overview of last year's water quality, including information about the source of your water and its contents.

Water Source Information: The public water system serving Greenwood, Franklin, and surrounding communities relies on groundwater obtained from six well fields. The Indiana Department of Environmental Control (IDEM) has evaluated all public surface and groundwater sources statewide to identify potential contaminants. The Indiana American Water-Johnson County Operations sources have been assessed as having high susceptibility to contamination, meaning that under current land use practices, the likelihood of source water aquifer contamination is elevated. This potential risk can be mitigated through appropriate protective measures.

Indiana American Water has developed a comprehensive Wellhead Protection Management Program, in collaboration with local volunteers, to safeguard valuable groundwater resources serving the community. IDEM has recognized this initiative by awarding Indiana American Water-Johnson County Operations the prestigious Hoosier Water Guardian Award with Distinction.

Investing in Johnson County's Future: Indiana American Water invested over $6.2 million in improvements to the Johnson County Water system in 2016. Additionally, the company contributed more than $708,000 in local taxes that year, serving as a valuable source of revenue for the community and its services.

Substances Found in Municipal Water: Water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal or human activity.

• Microbial Contaminants: Including viruses and bacteria from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural livestock operations, and wildlife
• Inorganic Contaminants: Such as salts and metals occurring naturally or resulting from urban stormwater runoff, industrial/domestic wastewater discharges, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
• Pesticides and Herbicides: From various sources including agriculture, urban stormwater runoff, and residential uses
• Organic Chemical Contaminants: Including synthetic and volatile organic compounds, byproducts of industrial processes and petroleum production, as well as gas stations, urban stormwater runoff, and septic systems
• Radioactive Contaminants: Naturally occurring or resulting from oil/gas production and mining activities

Special Health Information: Certain populations may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general public. Immuno-compromised individuals, including those undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, the elderly, and young children may face heightened infection risks. These individuals should seek advice from healthcare providers regarding municipal water consumption.
