Understanding Your Water Quality Report

To comply with state and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations, Indiana American Water issues annual reports detailing water quality analysis. These reports enhance public understanding of drinking water quality and raise awareness about protecting water sources. In 2017, testing was conducted for numerous contaminants, all of which were found to be below state and federal maximum allowable levels.

Water Source Information

The Newburgh public water system utilizes both surface water and groundwater sources. Surface water comes from Wildcat Creek, while groundwater is obtained from 18 wells. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has assessed all public surface and groundwater sources to identify potential contamination risks.

Source Water Protection

Indiana American Water has developed a comprehensive Wellhead Protection Management Plan in collaboration with community volunteers to safeguard vital groundwater resources. IDEM recognized this program by awarding Indiana American Water-Kokomo Operations the prestigious Hoosier Water Guardian Award with Distinction.

Commitment to Excellence

Indiana American Water-Kokomo was awarded the prestigious 15-Year Director's Award under the Partnership for Safe Water program, which is implemented by EPA, Indiana Department of Environmental Management, and various water organizations. This award recognizes water utilities for achieving operational excellence through voluntary optimization of treatment facilities and adoption of more stringent performance goals than required by federal and state standards.

Health Information

Some individuals may be more vulnerable to contaminants in water than the general population. Immunocompromised persons, including those undergoing cancer treatment, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly individuals, and infants may face increased health risks. These individuals should seek advice about water consumption from their healthcare providers.
