New Jersey Water Utility Companies

Your local water is sourced from an underground aquifer known as the Potomac Raritan Magothy (PRM) through four wells. Each well can deliver up to 1,000 gallons per minute (GPM).

The water treatment process begins at the Johnson Boulevard Water Treatment Plant where it enters through an aerator tower. Here, forced air interacts with the water, converting iron from a ferrous to a ferric state. The treated water collects in a million-gallon reservoir where Sodium Hypochlorite is added to oxidize iron and manganese while disinfecting the water.

Next, the water passes through three green sand filters that capture iron particles. Potassium permanganate helps regenerate the filter beds through ion exchange. Additional Sodium Hypochlorite maintains a protective chlorine residual against bacterial contamination. Finally, the water enters the pressurized distribution system to maintain proper flow and pressure throughout the community.

Like all municipal water sources (both tap and bottled), our supply contains naturally-occurring minerals dissolved as water moves through underground soil and rock formations. The water may also contain trace materials from animal presence or human activity in the watershed area.
