We're pleased to present this year's Annual Municipal Water Quality Report to our community. This document informs you about the quality water and services we deliver daily. Our primary goal is providing you with safe, reliable water. We want to share the efforts we make to continuously improve water treatment processes and protect our vital water sources.

We're proud to report that our municipal water meets all Federal and State requirements. If you have questions about this report or your water service, please contact Jim Dickerson at the Margate City Public Works Department (822-5038). We encourage our valued customers to stay informed about their water utility. To learn more, attend our regularly scheduled City Commission meetings at City Hall (9001 Winchester Avenue) on the first and third Thursdays monthly at 4:00 P.M.

The Margate City Water Department routinely monitors water components according to Federal and State regulations. The table shows our monitoring results from January 1st to December 31st, 2017. Municipal water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels across land or underground, it dissolves natural minerals, sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal or human activities.

Potential contaminants in source water include:

  • Microbial contaminants (viruses, bacteria) from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural operations, and wildlife
  • Inorganic contaminants (salts, metals) either naturally occurring or from urban runoff, industrial/domestic wastewater, oil/gas production, mining, or farming
  • Pesticides and herbicides from agriculture, urban runoff, and residential use
  • Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile compounds from industrial processes, petroleum production, gas stations, urban runoff, and septic systems
  • Radioactive contaminants, either naturally occurring or from oil/gas production and mining

To ensure tap water safety, EPA establishes regulations limiting contaminant levels in public water systems. FDA regulations set similar limits for bottled water to provide equivalent public health protection.
