New Jersey Water Utility Companies

Established in 2016, Brick Resources continues its commitment to the Partnership for Safe Water Supply, a nationwide initiative promoting excellence in surface water treatment. This voluntary cooperative effort involves the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, AWWA, and various water organizations, with over 200 surface water facilities across the United States.

Brick Utilities maintains a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection certified laboratory that has operated continuously since 1975. This laboratory forms an essential component of the utility's Comprehensive Water Quality Monitoring Program. The Authority conducts more extensive monitoring of source water, treatment processes, and finished water than state or federal regulations require.

The Authority emphasizes thorough source water testing because 74% of treated water comes from the Metedeconk River. This river is fed by a 70-square mile watershed vulnerable to both natural and human-caused contamination that can affect untreated water quality.

Brick Utilities processes approximately 3.5 billion gallons of water annually. Besides water from the Metedeconk River and Brick Reservoir, the Authority draws from deep Potomac-Raritan-Magothy Aquifer wells nearly 2,500 feet below ground, which remain unaffected by surface conditions. A smaller portion comes from the Cohansey Aquifer. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has completed a Source Water Assessment Report for public water systems, available at www.state.nj.us/dep/swap or by contacting the NJDEP Bureau of Safe Drinking Water at (609) 292-5550.
