About Us
We're pleased to present this year's Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. This document outlines the high-quality water and services we deliver daily to our customers. Our mission is to provide you with safe, reliable water while continuously improving our treatment processes and protecting our water resources.
The MUA serves eastern Lakewood Township (approximately 11 square miles). Our water comes from twelve wells drawing from various aquifers including the Cohansey, Englishtown, and Potomac-Raritan-Magothy (P-R-M). Most well water is treated at one of our two facilities on New Hampshire Avenue and Shorrock Street. We also purchase water from Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority (BTMUA), which sources from groundwater wells and the Metedeconk River.
Both Lakewood Township MUA and Brick Township MUA conduct regular contaminant monitoring according to Federal and State regulations. Our testing data, along with BTMUA's results, cover January 1st to December 31st, 2017. Some contaminants are monitored less frequently as their concentrations rarely change, making some data more than a year old. We've received monitoring waivers for asbestos and synthetic organic contaminants, while BTMUA has waivers for synthetic organic contaminants.
Municipal water sources (both tap and bottled) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over land or underground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals, sometimes radioactive materials, and can pick up substances from animal or human activity.
