Is my water safe? We're pleased to present this year's Annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) as required by the Safe Municipal Water Act (SDWA). This report provides information about your water source, its contents, and how it compares to regulatory standards. Consider this a snapshot of last year's water quality assessment. We remain committed to providing you with up-to-date information because informed customers are our greatest allies.

Where does my water come from? Your water is sourced from four groundwater wells within Point Pleasant, supplemented by water purchased from Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority and New Jersey American Water. The Point Pleasant wells range from 80 to 100 feet deep and draw water from the Kirkwood, Englishtown, and Raritan formations. Brick's water comes from wells and the Metedeconk River, treated at their Route 88 West facilities. New Jersey American's supply is drawn from the Englishtown and Raritan formations plus surface water from the Jumping Brook Treatment Plant.

Source Water Assessment information is available through the NJ Department of Environmental Protection at www.state.nj.us/dep/watersupply/swap/ or by contacting NJDEP's Bureau of Safe Municipal Water at 609-292-5550. When a system receives a susceptibility rating for a contaminant category, it indicates only the potential for contamination, not actual presence in your water. Public water systems must conduct regular monitoring, and if contaminants exceed allowable levels, treatment must be installed.

Point Pleasant Water Department Municipal Water Report Info

Around 1500, this area was the ceremonial gathering place of the friendly Lenape Indians, known as the "Land of Tall Timber." The first English settlers arrived in the greater Point Pleasant region around 1665. The Borough is bordered by the Manasquan River to the north, Point Pleasant Beach and Bay Head to the east, Beaver Dam Creek to the south, and Brick Township to the west.

Though not directly on the ocean, the Borough's history is richly connected to maritime activities. Fishermen have long called this home, and many found their final resting place here. February 15, 1846 was New Jersey's "Day of Terror" for sailing vessels when a massive northeast storm wrecked 9 ships from Sandy Hook to Chadwick, including the "Alabama" at Point Pleasant and the "John Minturn" carrying cargo valued at $84,000.

A twenty-foot marker in White Lawn Cemetery, at the intersection of Borden and Trenton Avenues, is inscribed "Unknown Dead of the Sea" and marks the burial site of shipwreck victims. This cemetery dates back to 1727.

On February 15, 1850, Ocean County was separated from Monmouth County by the New Jersey legislature, creating Brick Township including the Point Pleasant area. The Borough became independent from Brick Township in 1920 under Chapter 299, laws of 1920. After the first elected Mayor J.H. Harvey declined to serve, Melville B. Parker became the first official Mayor of Point Pleasant Borough.

Point Pleasant Fire Co. #1 was established in 1920 by civic-minded citizens, followed by Fire Co. #2 in 1954. The Point Pleasant First Aid Squad was organized in 1968 to serve community needs.

The Manasquan River-Bay Head canal, completed in 1924, forms part of the Intracoastal Waterway that extends to Florida. The canal divides the Borough in half, with drivers crossing via the Rt. 88 or Lovelandtown bridges. In 1964, Senator Case's Senate Bill #2654 was adopted, changing the waterway's name to the Point Pleasant Canal.
