About Us
Water quality and service are East Hanover Water Department's foremost commitments to our customers. Annually, over 260 distinct water quality tests are performed to ensure the safety and purity of your water supply. The Township is pleased to report that the water provided to our residents has consistently met or exceeded all state and federal requirements for municipal water.
This brochure presents a summary of water quality and analytical test results from the past year. Included is information about your water source, treatment processes, and how test results compare to the standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
For additional information about your water, please contact Edward Schimminger, Superintendent of Public Utilities at (973)888-6080. You may also provide feedback at Town Council Meetings held on the first Monday of each month.
East Hanover's water is sourced from three deep groundwater wells that draw from the Buried Valley Aquifer, also known as the Passaic Water Basin. This extensive aquifer spans from Morris Plains in the south to Pompton Lakes in the north, and from Chester in the west to Livingston in the east. Approximately 600,000 residents and numerous industrial facilities rely on this aquifer for their water needs. During periods of high demand, East Hanover purchases supplemental water from New Jersey American Water Company.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has completed and published a Source Water Assessment Report and Summary for this public water system, which is accessible at www.state.new jersey.us/dep/swap/ or by contacting the NJDEP Bureau of Safe Drinking Water at 609-292-5550.
