Providing high-quality municipal water involves much more than simply moving water through pipes. Water treatment is a complex process requiring skilled professionals. Our licensed water specialists understand diverse fields including mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics.

Important Health Information

Some individuals may be more vulnerable to water contaminants than the general population. People with compromised immune systems—such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients, some elderly individuals, and infants—may face increased health risks. These individuals should seek advice from healthcare providers regarding their water consumption. Our Water Source

Since 1874, Lake Massabesic has served as the water supply for Manchester and portions of six surrounding communities. The lake water undergoes purification at Manchester's Water Treatment Plant to meet strict state and federal standards. This facility, completed in the 1970s, has been regularly updated with advanced equipment to enhance quality control and operational efficiency, with major upgrades completed between 2003-2006.

Located beside Lake Massabesic, the plant treats all municipal water before distribution through a 500-mile pipeline network serving homes and businesses. By approximately 2022, water from the Merrimack River will provide a necessary supplemental supply for our customers, with a new treatment facility in Hooksett, NH designed to match or exceed the quality standards of our Lake Massabesic plant.

High Utility Bill?

Utility bills can be appealed to the Director of Public Works. Please submit a written appeal explaining potential causes of excessive water usage, including any relevant photos or invoices. Best Practices

1. Inspect sinks, pipes, basement, and water heater for leaks
2. Check outdoor spigots for dripping
3. Toilet leak test: Add food coloring to the tank, don't flush, and check the bowl after 15 minutes - colored water indicates a leak
