About Us
Greenwood CPW is proud to present our 2018 Annual Municipal Water Quality Report. We're pleased to report that our water consistently meets and exceeds all state and federal water quality standards under the Safe Drinking Water Act.
This report provides information about the quality of water we deliver daily. To protect our valued customers, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) have established strict standards for municipal water. These standards safeguard consumers from waterborne disease organisms and harmful chemicals.
Each year, the EPA requires all public water systems to provide customers with details about water quality and compliance with environmental regulations through annual Water Quality Reports. Our constant goal is providing you with safe, reliable water. We want you to understand our efforts to continuously improve water treatment processes and protect our valuable water resources.
Greenwood CPW meets standards significantly higher than current regulations require. This outstanding performance is partly due to our participation in the South Carolina Area Wide Optimization Program (AWOP). The W.R. Wise Water Treatment Plant has been recognized by DHEC for achieving AWOP goals.
Our water source is Lake Greenwood, located in the Saluda River Basin of South Carolina. The W.R. Wise Water Treatment Plant is situated on Lake Greenwood at 202 Water Plant Street, off Puckett's Ferry Road. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control prepared a source water assessment plan for our water source, available for review at the treatment plant.
The treatment process includes multiple barriers to protect customers from waterborne illnesses. Our facility has an approved treatment capacity of 33 million gallons daily. Lake water undergoes disinfection, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, and filtration. We use powdered activated carbon seasonally for taste and odor control. Multiple disinfectants are added throughout treatment for pathogen elimination and metal oxidation while minimizing disinfection byproducts.
Greenwood CPW routinely monitors over 150 substances according to federal and state regulations. Most test results show contaminants aren't present in our water supply. The monitoring includes regulated water contaminants detected during the calendar year, with samples taken both at the treatment plant and from customer taps throughout the distribution system.
Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants than the general population. Immunocompromised individuals, including cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients, people with HIV/AIDS, some elderly individuals, and infants may face increased infection risks. These individuals should seek advice about municipal water from healthcare providers.
Our system had no violations in recent testing. We're proud that your municipal water meets or exceeds all Federal and State requirements. Through monitoring and testing, we've detected some substances, but the EPA has determined your water is SAFE at these levels.
