The HAZEL CREST MUNICIPAL WATER DEPARTMENT is pleased to report zero EPA violations in 2017. Our tap water has consistently met all USEPA and state health standards. The Village meticulously protects its water supply, with no violations of contaminant levels or water quality standards during the previous year.

Hazel Crest uses purchased Surface Water. For more information, contact Public Works at 708-335-9600 Ext. 200 or Water Plant Operator Joe Shupryt at 708-335-9600 Ext. 287. Residents can participate in water quality decisions at Village Board meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays monthly.

Hazel Crest receives water from the City of Harvey, which obtains it from Chicago. Chicago sources its water from Lake Michigan, which serves 188 suburban communities. The EPA has noted significant improvement in Lake Michigan water quality over two decades. By volume, it's the largest Great Lake located entirely within the US, serving as a drinking source, recreation area, and recipient of municipal and industrial discharge.

Due to the natural water's good quality, standard treatment methods (disinfection, coagulation, sedimentation, and sand filtration) adequately produce water free from harmful contaminants. All municipal water, including bottled water, reasonably contains at least small amounts of some contaminants, which doesn't necessarily indicate health risks.
