Tennessee Water Utility Companies

Over the past four years, the Hixson Utility District has undertaken a major infrastructure upgrade, replacing over 25,000 manually read water meters with Auto Meter Reading (AMR) technology. This innovative system transmits readings directly to collection devices in HUD vehicles as they drive through service areas during scheduled reading periods.

A significant benefit of this AMR technology is its ability to detect potential leaks. The system flags any meters that register continuous water usage for 24 consecutive hours, providing an early warning system for possible leaks. To enhance customer service, we now include these alerts on customer bills when detected.

If you receive a leak alert, you should check for water loss throughout your property. The alert only captures a 24-hour snapshot before the meter reading, and even small continuous usage can trigger the notification. For helpful tips on identifying leaks, please visit our website at http://www.hixsonutility.com/resource-center/leak/.

Please note that HUD does not repair leaks occurring between the meter and your home. Customers are responsible for maintaining their service lines and plumbing fixtures. If you've fixed a leak, you may qualify for a billing adjustment - contact ServLine at 800-366-1662 regarding the water portion of your bill. For sewer-related adjustments, please contact your sewer service provider listed on your bill.

Hixson Utility District Municipal Water Report Info

The Hixson Utility District was established on June 14, 1941, under the Tennessee Utility District Law of 1937. Beginning with just 25 residents within the Hixson community boundaries and 15 miles of water lines, the district has experienced remarkable growth over the decades.

Today, we proudly serve approximately 26,500 customers through an extensive network of more than 400 miles of water lines. The original Board of Commissioners included W.P. Headrick, Dr. B.C. Roper, and Ira Jones, with Jones serving as President until 1966.

Our district now serves one of Hamilton County's fastest-growing regions. We've maintained competitive rates while continuing to deliver high-quality water to our customers. Currently, we're implementing several long-term improvements, including our Automated Meter Reading project, to enhance our service capabilities for the community we serve.
