I'm selling my home - what inspection do I need? According to Massachusetts State Law (Chap. 148 Sec 26F), all residential properties must be equipped with approved smoke detectors upon sale or transfer. Working smoke detectors are required on every habitable level, including basements. Finished attic areas also require smoke detector coverage. For homes exceeding 1,200 square feet per floor, a second detector is mandatory.

To schedule an inspection, visit the fire station with your closing date to request a permit. The inspection fee is $50.00. Don't delay this important step!

Before inspection:

• Ensure your street number is clearly visible from the road (MGL c.148 § 59)
• Verify you have the correct type of alarms installed in proper locations
• Confirm all alarms are functioning correctly
