Our History: The water serving our community originates from the Florida Aquifer, known for its exceptional purity. The first community water supply in the Hudson area was established in 1923, consisting of a hand-pump well and 15 feet of pipe located east of US Highway 19 off Hudson Area. Water was delivered by horse and wagon at a cost of twenty-five cents per barrel.
By 1956, Hudson developed its first water system initiated by 56 local residents. This system featured a four-inch well pumping 60 gallons per minute, a 1,000-gallon pressure tank, and distribution lines. The Hudson Community Club championed this important infrastructure project.
Hudson Water Works formally incorporated in January 1972, and acquired Mountain Water Works in January 1974. As a non-profit utility, Hudson Water Works is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors elected in multi-year intervals, providing direct communication between community members and utility management. Board responsibilities include overseeing expenditures and planning for the utility's future.
Since its humble beginnings serving just 56 customers in 1956, Hudson Water Works has expanded to serve 7,318 customers today. Our water system comprises A/C pipe, PVC pipe, and galvanized pipe ranging from 12-inch to 1/2-inch diameter, covering approximately 3 square miles of service area.
